Arlene Ellen Wold, 98 of Eau Claire passed away on Tuesday, August 28, 2018 at Grace Woodlands.

Arlene was born on March 16, 1920 to Ellen (Nelson) Wold and Alfred Waldmar Wold on the west side of Eau Claire. While she was an infant they moved to the Northside on Birch Street. Arlene was baptized at First Lutheran Church and was a lifetime member, being active in her church during her youth by attending Sunday Worship, Sunday School, Thursday Religious Class, all day summer vacation Bible School, confirmation classes and Bible School after confirmation. She was a member of the Peace/Praise Circle for many years.

Arlene was educated at 10th Ward School (near Longfellow) Junior High School, E.C.S.H.S. Class of 1937 and after graduating she attended one year of an Advanced Commercial course at Chippewa Valley Technical College.

Arlene was employed at Uniroyal for 30 years working as a secretary in the Payroll Department. She enjoyed going to their cottage at Island Lake during the summer to swim and sometimes fish and visiting with several neighbors. She enjoyed reading, television game shows, nature and travel shows and educational programs on P.B.S. She loved animals and always had a dog or two and always fed the birds, squirrels, and a stray cat that appeared every night for lunch.

Arlene and her brother Don took good care of their mother at home when she became ill. They enjoyed a couple of years of travel off and on in their motor home out West and down South.

Arlene is survived by her niece Sue Melling and her husband Marvin Melling of Eau Claire. Sue and her husband Marvin took very good care of Arlene. She always said Marvin should’ve been a chef. He made very tasty “meals on wheels” for her and she enjoyed them very much.

Arlene was preceded in death by her parents, 2 brothers: Leslie and Don, sister Lillian Wold Berggren, and many out of town relatives. Many of her friends will miss her companionship, sense of humor and common-sense conversation. Her special friend Agnes Borton Smith and she were life-long friends and were baptized at the same service at First Lutheran Church in March of 1920.

Funeral service will be held at Smith Funeral Chapel on Friday, August 31, 2018 at 11:00 am with Pastor Jim Ahlquist officiating. Visitation will be held from 10:00 am until time of service. Burial will take place at Forest Hill Cemetery. Family and friends may leave online condolences at www.smithfuneralec.com.
