Duane E. Gilbertson, 74 of Mondovi passed away peacefully on Saturday, October 7, 2017 surrounded by his family.
Duane was born on February 14, 1943 in Drammen, Wisconsin. He graduated from Mondovi High School in 1961. Duane married Shirley Hayden in 1963 at St. Patrick’s Church in Eau Claire. He worked at Uniroyal for 23 years until it closed and continued to work at American Phoenix until his retirement in 2000. In his spare time Duane loved to hunt and fish, and if there are trout streams in Heaven, he already has twice his limit. He also enjoyed farming, cooking, sausage making and spending time with his family and friends. His door was always open to company and he would give anyone the shirt off his back.
Duane is survived by his wife of 54 years, Shirley Gilbertson of Mondovi, WI; daughters, Debra Annen of Eau Claire and Nichole Gilbertson of Mondovi; son, Terry (Dawn) Gilbertson of Fall Creek; grandchildren, Candace (Tom) Bresina, Mitcheal Anderson, John Gilbertson, Jessica (Matthew) Bohl, and Kyle (Lydia) Gilbertson; and great- grandchildren, Amber Bresina, Benjamin Gilbertson, and Amanda Anderson.
Duane was preceded in death by his parents, Rodney and Lucille Stoll; and grandparents, Ernie and Rose Gilbertson.
Funeral services will be Wednesday, October 11, 2017 at 11:30 a.m. at Smith Funeral Chapel in Eau Claire. Visitation will begin at 10:00 a.m. and continue until the time of services at the funeral home on Wednesday. Burial will take place at a later date at Drammen Lutheran Cemetery in Mondovi, WI.
