Michael C. Sumner

March 24, 1948 - May 5, 2018

Michael C Sumner, 70 of Eau Claire, WI passed away peacefully on Saturday, May 5, 2018 surrounded by his family at Mayo Clinic, Eau Claire.
Michael was born on March 24, 1948 in Eau Claire, the son of Charles (Dick) and Delores (Johnson) Sumner. He graduated from Eau Claire North High School with the class of 1966.

On October 28, 1967 Michael was united in marriage to Suzanne M McCrackin. They have 3 daughters. He was drafted into the US Army, March 1968 – March 1970. He was stationed at Fort Carson, Colorado. He then went to work for Pope & Talbot (currently Cascades) 46 years until his retirement in December 2006.
In September 2006 Michael was blessed by Janice Webber a dear friend/co-worker in receiving a kidney from her as a gift of life. This gift gave him an additional 12 years of life with family and friends. We are forever thankful for her selfless act of kindness and embrace her as part of our family.
Mike enjoyed maintaining and collecting cars. He was most proud of his 1969 Dodge Charger he bought new which he still owns and maintains. Mike and Sue also enjoyed building there 1936 Plymouth. He liked to travel to car shows along the way they would take time to sight see in many different states. He enjoyed many family trips and camping over the years with his wife and children. He enjoyed time with the grandchildren taking them for rides in the trailer pulled by the four-wheeler. They spent the last five years wintering in San Juan, Texas.

He liked to tinker with anything and everything, he had a creative mind to figure out the best and easiest way to do things. We will remember him for his sense of humor always having a good time telling stories, playing practical jokes and laughing. He was fortunate to have so many friends throughout his life.

Michael is survived by his wife Suzanne; daughters Ann (Al) Olson; Quinette (Scott) Hotchkin; Kim (Tony) White; his five grandchildren: Abigail and Alison Olson, Kayla and Trey White and Ella Hotchkin. Father and mother-in-law Donald and Doloris McCrackin; in-laws Pat (Mary), Mike (Arlette), Chris (Diane) and several nieces and nephews.
