Neil J. Miland, 81 of Eau Claire passed away on Sunday, March 26, 2017 at Prairie Pointe in Altoona.

Neil was born on August 31, 1935 to Joseph and Cecelia (Bump) Miland in Eau Claire, Wisconsin.  Neil grew up on a farm in Modena and graduated in 1953 from Mondovi High School.  He married Janice Green in 1956.  Neil served in the military for 24 years including being a Vietnam Veteran.  While in the Army where he became an LPN. He then joined the US Air Force which enabled him to attend the Bethel School of Nursing in Colorado Springs, CO where he became a RN. He later retired in 1976 as a Captain in the US Air Force. Neil worked as the Director of Surgical Services for 20 years at Sacred Heart Hospital.  He was a hard worker and would do anything for his family and friends. Neil had a passion for cars and John Deere Tractors.   

Neil is survived by his wife, Janice Miland of Eau Claire; sons, Jeff (Lori) Miland of Eau Claire, Jay (Janeen) Miland of Menomonie, WI, and Jarred (Mary) Miland of Lonsdale, MN; seven grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; brother, Keith (Mary) Miland of The Villages, FL; sister-in-law, Janet Lee and friend Don Halvorsen of Eau Claire; best friends, Perry and Lori Stuart of Eau Claire; and many nieces and nephews.

Neil was preceded by his parents, Joseph and Cecelia Miland; in-laws, Harry and Verta Green; great-granddaughter, Alyssa; and brother-in-law, Jon Lee.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Truax United Church of Christ.

Memorial services will be on Friday, March 31, 2017 at 1:00 pm at Truax United Church of Christ with Pastor David Stratton officiating.  Visitation will be Thursday, March 30, 2017 from 4:00 to 7:00 pm at Smith Funeral Chapel and one hour prior to the service at the church on Friday.  Burial will be at 3:00 pm on Friday at Union Cemetery in Cleghorn, WI.

  1. Janice, just want to send my condolences to you and the family. Neil was a wonderful person and I enjoyed working with him for those 20 years at Sacred Heart. He did a great job there and you should be proud of him. He was always kind and considerate with everyone he came in contact with. He was a friend to everyone and he will be missed.

  4. Janice I am so sorry to learn of Neil’s passing. I often look back at my time as your neighbor with fond memories. Neil was always such a nice guy always happy and smiling. We often would stand outside and talk for long periods of time. I always looked forward to seeing him and seeing what he had to say!! I also enjoyed seeing you two at Maple Manor. You and your family are in my thoughts and prayers! Again please accept my deepest condolences in Neil’s passing. He will be greatly missed. Steve Norton
