Obituary For Allen R. Britten

Allen R. Britten 88, passed away at Dove Healthcare in Bloomer, WI on May 30, 2026. Allen (Al) was born on October 5th, 1937, to Lenora and Thomas Britten in Eau Claire, WI. Allen enlisted into the National Guards where he served for 9 years. Allen married Sandra Ann Hentschel on July 26, 1958. They welcomed 3 children together. Allen was a tile setter for many years until the traveling got to be too much and he missed the time with his family. He then started his career at Phoenix Steel where he was a painter and worked with the rebar. When Phoenix Steel merged with Ambassador Steel, he continued his career with Ambassador. It was during that time when he lost his lifelong partner of 38 years of marriage in 1996. Al eventually retired from the steel industry after 38 years of service, never missing one day of work. He enjoyed a few years of his retirement but then decided to work part time at the UWEC as a custodian. He remained at the university for 10 yrs.

Allen is survived by his daughters, Brenda Crowe (Randy) and Amy Britten; three grandsons, Jordan Crowe (Kaylin), Jesse Crowe (Stephanie) and Justin Crowe (Sue); five great grandchildren, Natalie, Owen, Miles, James and Emma. He is also survived by his older brother, Roger; two sisters-in-law, Barbara Bakeman and Ida Britten; and many grand dogs.

Dad loved watching the Brewers while snacking on his peanuts (in the shell). He also enjoyed an occasional trip to the casino. In his younger days, he had a strong passion for bowling. He looked forward to going to the Minnesota State Fair so he could enjoy a couple of his favorite corndogs! Most important to dad was family time, he loved the big meals with all the grandkids and great grandchildren. He was content just watching the little ones and would get so many laughs from them. He was extremely proud of his grandsons and their accomplishments. Dad loved his daughters and still worried about them to the very end.

Allen was preceded in death by his parents; his wife of 38 years; his son, Rodney; brothers, Lary and Gene; and many other relatives and friends.

We would like to thank Dr. Burns and staff at the Oncology Department at Mayo Clinic for their exceptional care and compassion. We also extend a thank you to Dove Healthcare in Bloomer for their wonderful care. Dad thoroughly enjoyed the time he spent there. He loved the pontoon rides and all the activities and last but not least, the food.

A celebration of life will be held at a later date. Smith Funeral Chapel is assisting the family.
