John O. Roach, 94, of Eau Claire, died peacefully at home on Monday, July 10, 2023, with his wife and family by his side.
John was born on October 20, 1928, the son of Walter and Cora Roach. He was a graduate of St. Patrick’s High School, class of 1947.
John married Betty Schneider on May 20, 1950. They later divorced.
He married Judy Stolp on August 14, 1992.
John worked on the family farm and then as a mechanic. He ended up at Ray Olson’s Used Cars, which later became Herbie’s Used Cars. There he earned the reputation as “the best mechanic in Eau Claire.” He was a dedicated volunteer fireman for the Town of Union for many years. He also enjoyed singing in the church choir at St. James, fishing, dancing, and spending time with family.
John is survived by his wife, Judy; children, Karen (Pete) Schwingle, Ginnie (Mark) Ryder, Nancy Roach, Gloria (Gary) Pabst, and Allan Roach; step-children, Mark (Margaret) Stolp, Jim (Donna) Stolp, and Kathy (Joe) Alf; sister, Jeanne Lennie; brother, Mike (Louise) Roach; sister-in-law, Janis Smith; many grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Walter and Cora; brothers, Tom, Bob, and Dick; sisters, Kay Simons and Betty McMahon; brother-in-law, Jim Burt.
The family would like to thank Dr. Setla and Rachel Johnson (Nurse Practitioner) at Mayo for their care and compassion over the last years. They would also like to thank the Mayo Hospice team for their care, guidance, comfort, and kindness through the last 4 months. Because of them John was able to spend quality time at home with his wife and family.
The Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, August 12 at 11:00 at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, 1712 Highland Ave, Eau Claire, with Father Francis Thadathil officiating. Visitation will be from 9:30-11:00 at the church. Burial will be at Rest Haven Cemetery, 5750 Old Town Hall Road, Eau Claire. A luncheon will follow at the church.
The family will donate memorial contributions to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital and other charities that were special to John. Friends and family are welcome to leave online condolences below.
