Obituary For Donna M. Smasal

Donna Mae Smasal, 87, of Eau Claire passed away on Wednesday, September 25, 2024. She was born to Norbert and Martha (DeBruin) Seufzer on October 6, 1936, in Stanley. Donna lived a life full of hard work but lots of laughter, she was tough and stubborn yet immensely kind and caring, her joyful presence will be dearly missed.

In 1955 she married her husband Robert, and together they worked their farm while raising their three daughters. The farm always held a special place in Donna’s heart, and she loved telling stories about their time there. Later they went on to run Farmers Union summer camps at Kamp Kenwood in Chippewa Falls. Afterwards Donna went on to work at St. Joseph’s Hospital in housekeeping and laundry until her well-earned retirement.

Donna was a very talented seamstress, she handmade clothes for her children, and even made her own wedding dress. She was also skilled at embroidery and loved to gift her creations to her family and friends. She was the type of person that always kept busy - whether with baking, gardening, or playing cards, and every night she’d sit down with a good book before bed. She loved sharing her skills and wisdom with her daughters and granddaughters, and was the epitome of a strong, smart, independent woman.

A beloved mother, grandmother, and friend, Donna will be remembered for her sense of humor, her unbreakable spirit, her work ethic, and all the love and support she shared with those close to her. Throughout her year-long battle with cancer, she showed such willpower, handling a tough situation with grace and positivity. She never let it get her down and was still cracking jokes until her final days. You’d be hard pressed to find a stronger woman in both spirit and mind. She is a testament to all of us to keep reading, keep moving, and keep laughing.

Donna is survived by her daughters, Julie Alix, Jean Smasal, and Lynn Smasal, and her grandchildren, Ashley, Candy, Jeremy and Jessie. She is preceded in death by her husband, Robert Smasal. Our family finds peace in knowing they get to be reunited on the other side after over 30 years apart.

She will be laid to rest on October 16th at 11am at Riverside Cemetery in Withee, WI. A small family luncheon will be held following the burial at Bijou Bistro, in Eau Claire. Online condolences may be left at www.smithfuneralec.com.
