Obituary For Dorthy C. Anderson

Dorthy C. Anderson, 108, of Eau Claire passed away on Sunday, November 5, 2023, at Dove Healthcare – South. Dorthy was born on February 22, 1915, to Christian and Sophie Hanson Anderson. Dorthy married Clayton Anderson on May 24, 1941. Together they were married for over 50 years.

Our Aunt Dor was full of love and wisdom for others. She was filled with stories and had the gift of remembering them and telling them. Her days were spent bringing joy to others. Dor had many talents. She was musically gifted, could play the piano very well, and sang in many choirs. She and Clayton were wonderful dancers. Ice skating was both exercise and fun for her. She taught her nieces how to skate backwards and they loved it. Dor was a gifted athlete and took part in some type of sport year-round. In spring and summer, she played tennis and golf, winning several city championships along the way. Dor was always watching sports on TV and followed all Wisconsin teams closely. Dorthy was a woman of deep faith and conviction. Her Bible was always near her as she read from it often. All her great nephews and nieces really enjoyed their visits with Great Aunt Dor and looked forward to spending time with her. We will all miss her in so many ways.

Dorthy is survived by her nephews, Jack (Jackie) Pederson, Charles (Nancy) Pederson, and Peter (Laura) Pederson; nieces, Marcia (Delwin) Sweeney, Shirley (Richard) Smith, and Elaine Pederson.

Dorthy was preceded in death by her husband, Clayton Anderson; brothers, Christian Pederson and Einar Pederson; sisters, Dagny Paulson and Louise Pederson; brother-in-law, Walter Paulson; sister-in-law, Leona Pederson and Myra Pederson; nieces, Sonja Turner and Katie Paulson.

A graveside service will be held Wednesday, November 15, 2023, at 10:30am at Forest Hill Cemetery. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to Spirit Lutheran Church or the Eau Claire YMCA. Friends and family may leave online condolences.

Dor will forever leave behind a legacy of faith, love, and deeply genuine care for others. She impacted our community at Dove Healthcare - South profoundly and made an indelible mark on every person who ever knew and worked with her. I will never forget her life lessons, wisdom, humor, or love for God that made her a lighthouse in this world. All of our lives were changed by her presence and fellowship and we are forever blessed to have walked this path of life with her. Giving thanks for this beautiful soul and all that her cup poured out into the lives of everyone around her...that influence and what she has left behind will never cease to overflow. Thank you, Dor, for filling all of our cups and teaching us what truly matters in this life.

We are saddened to hear of Dorthy's passing. She was a close family friend for many years, especially to my mother after my father had died. We had many enjoyable conversations about life and sports. Hers was a life well-lived. With loving memories, Tom and Barb Tinker

I had the privilege of getting to know Dor when I lived at Dove South. She was an amazing person...so kind, caring and enjoying to talk to. I am blessed that she touched my life.

Dor was and always will be a big inspiration to me. Getting to know her the past 2 years as she lived at Dove was a honor. Getting to see her almost every day would make my day, even if it was for a short bit just to say good morning or if it was to attend an activity, or to do her nails. Her wit and kindness is what would get me through the day. Meeting her was just luck, but being her friend has been one of the best things to ever happen. I always told her I wanted be her when I grew up, and I can only hope I can be half the person she was. She will always have a special place in my heart. I'm going to miss her very dearly, my deepest sympathy to her family.

One of the many things I loved and will miss about my Great Aunt Dor is our Sunday call. We kept it brief so she could enjoy her love of watching sports. Her faith and positivity were unshakable, and her little reminders to "Let go, let God" were of great comfort to me. I know she did the same and is now surrounded by His grace and loving care.

Dor, An inspiration to many - special woman. Dor and I laughed heartily when we realized why we are so special - we're both Norwegian Lutherans. We shared some good times. Dorothy Sorlie
