Obituary For Elmira L. Simon

Elmira L. Simon, 106, of Boyd, Wisconsin passed away on Sunday, May 19, 2024, at Our House Memory Care in Chippewa Falls.

Elmira was born on August 6, 1917, to Arthur and Pearl (Hakes) Shilts in Boyd, Wisconsin. She was married on August 10, 1938, to Clayton J. Simon.

She lived her entire life in Boyd, WI until such time as she sold the longtime family residence on Supple St. Upon leaving Boyd, she lived by herself in apartments in Cadott and Stanley.

At 100 years she moved into Assisted Living at the Chippewa Manor in November 2017. Our House of Chippewa Falls became her home on October 25, 2022.

The Family want to express their heartfelt appreciation to staff and management from St. Croix Hospice and both Chippewa Manor and especially in those years and her last days spent at Our House.

Foremost a homemaker, Elmira was trained as a beautician, worked with Clayton at Blue Moon Cheese and for extended time was a Care Worker at State of Wisconsin’s Northern Center for the Developmentally Disabled.

Elmira was preceded in death by her husband Clayton of nearly Sixty years (1997); their eldest daughter Sandra (2004) and daughter Sharon (2022), and granddaughter Karen Jensen.

Elmira is survived by her family and children, David Simon (Joyce) of Tuscumbia, AL, Diana Baker (Bruce)of Oregon, WI, Dennis Simon of Eau Claire; daughter-in-law, Kathleen Simon of Eau Claire; and son-in-law Edward (Butch) Kelsey of Vadnais heights MN. Elmira has thirteen grandchildren and sixteen great-grandchildren.

A memorial service will be Saturday, July 27, 2024, from 10:00 am to 2:00 pm at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church in Boyd, Wisconsin with Pastor Robert Hopkins officiating. Visitation for all from 10:00 am – 11:00 am, everyone is welcome to the church memorial service and the following luncheon serviced by St. Peter’s Ladies. Family members only for interment to follow at Edson Union Cemetery alongside her husband, Clayton Simon.
