Obituary For Evelyn Joyce Gardow

Evelyn Joyce Gardow, 85, of Eau Claire passed away Wednesday, March 13, 2024, at her home surrounded by her family.

Evelyn was born to Eugene and Shirley (Gaffney) Miles on February 26, 1939 in Eau Claire. Evelyn graduated from Eau Claire Senior High in 1957. She went to Tech School for an Associate’s Degree in Business. Later she married the love of her life, Loyde Gardow, on December 30, 1961. In 1967 they purchased their one and only home where they raised four children.

After having her first child, she settled into the role of a stay-at-home wife and mom. As the children started school, Evelyn enjoyed helping out with school events and field trips. She joined a bowling league as an outlet to have adult conversation and gain lifelong friends. Mom encouraged us in our sports and school events.

As each one of her children got married, along came the grandchildren. She enjoyed the time she spent with each grandchild, whether it was just watching them for a weekend or cheering them on at a sports event.

Her desire was to care for her husband until the end of his time here on earth but the Lord had different plans for her. The Lord has said “Well done, my good and faithful servant, well done”. She is now at peace with the Lord.

Evelyn is survived by her husband, Loyde Gardow; her sons, Brian (Lori) Gardow; Keith Gardow; daughter-in-law, Deann Culpitt-Gardow; and a daughter, LuAnn (Jerry) Schlough; siblings, Ray (Sharron) Miles, Shirley Krogman; Myresa Kroneck (good friend Vern); Marylou (Bill) Parker; Joan Julian; Jerry (Benita) Miles; Jeanie Klink; Julie (Wendell) Weaver; and Avis (Galen) Thorson. Several grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Eugene (Buster) and Shirley Miles; son, Bradley Gardow; granddaughter, Nicholle Gardow; and a great grandson, Jackson Schlough.

A visitation will be held on Saturday, March 23, 2024 from 4 pm to 7 pm at Smith Funeral Chapel. Messages for the family may be left online at www.smithfuneralec.com.

Our Aunt Evie was so loved. A favorite memory of Barb's is watching her dance with our Uncle Darrel at various Gardow weddings. Always so sweet. We so wish we could have been there for you. Love and hugs from Chuck, Paula, Barb and Lee.

Wow! Evelyn was such a pillar of our neighborhood growing up across the street from each other. She was a great friend to my Mom, Jeannie, and a good source of information about local happenings! Evelyn knew the challenges in our family but she was always so good to all of us. She had a fun personality; a good Christian way about her and she really cared about Mom. I always appreciated that in Evelyn. God bless her and all of those who loved her throughout her life. Her love will be with all and many great stories will be shared. Condolences, Pam O'Reilly
