Obituary For Jer Lor

Jer Lor, 33, of Eau Claire passed away March 6, 2024. Born on June 15, 1990, in Madison, Wisconsin, she was the beloved daughter of William Lor and Lisa Thao. She graduated from North High School in 2008 and attended the Professional Hair Design Academy for cosmetology. She also graduated from the Chippewa Valley Technical College with a technical diploma in accounting assistant and had aspirations to continue her education to become an AODA counselor.

Jer had a generous spirit and enjoyed volunteering in her community, from homeless shelters to music festivals. She also provided numerous free haircuts to individuals in need. Her daughters, son, nieces, and nephews all loved spending time with her. She was a phenomenal cook, known for her grilling abilities and legendary fruit salad. An artist at heart, Jer found solace in creative pursuits, including drawing, painting, and crafting with the children in her life. Her sense of humor and bright spirit had the remarkable ability to light up any room she entered.

Above all, Jer loved her family. Her unwavering support and kindness were evident in all that she did. She was always willing to extend a helping hand, ensured no one went hungry, and could bring laughter into any situation. Jer was also a proud mother of three children and instilled values of kindness, compassion, and hard work, leaving behind a legacy that will be cherished by all who were fortunate enough to know her.

Jer leaves behind her parents, William Lor and Lisa Thao; brothers Seng (Amanda), Chong Ya, and Fong; sisters Yeng (Tou) and Yia (Nick); children Dontae, Kiana, and Mia, along with many nieces and nephews, aunts, uncles, and cousins.

Jer was preceded in death by her maternal grandparents, paternal grandfather and uncle, and cousin Chue Lao.

The Lor family would like to extend their deepest gratitude for the loving care Jer received from Mayo Clinic Health System’s Critical Care Unit.

Jer’s Celebration of Life will be held on March 17 at the Hmong Mutual Assistance Association (1320 W. Clairemont Avenue, Eau Claire). Friends and family are welcome to attend any time from 9:00am to closing at 9:00pm.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to the family to support funeral expenses and the care and education of Jer’s children through the following GoFundMe fundraiser located at https://gofund.me/bb698707.

Jer was a victim of domestic violence. Friends and family can also consider a donation to Black & Brown Womyn Power Coalition or Bolton Refuge House to support the vital work of addressing domestic violence in our community.

I met Jer ten years ago when she started working as a hairstylist at Fantastic Sam's, and I followed her when she moved to Cost Cutters. She did a great haircut and was always fun to talk to. If she wasn't busy, we'd just chat for a while before I left. After she left Cost Cutters, I lost track of her. She looked me up a few years later – a very nice surprise. We mainly just texted after that and would occasionally go out for coffee or a meal. I always looked forward to the times we got together. Despite very different backgrounds and a huge age difference, we really enjoyed each other's company. The last time I saw Jer was in October. She was getting ready for Halloween, her favorite time of year. She entered the Face of Horror contest, going all out with a very impressive (and scary!) look. We had a lot of laughs with that, one of the many fun things about Jer that I will always remember.

Jer was a close friend of mine, although I am much older than she is we have a lot in common. She is like a little sister to me. Jer is a very kind hearted person, she will forever be missed and remembered. I am very thankful to have become friends with Jer.
