Obituary For Joan Marie Mayer

Our precious Joan Marie (Bogdan) Mayer fell into the loving arms of Jesus on December 20, 2024. “Joanie” as she was so lovingly called spread more light and joy in this world than most who are lucky enough to have lived a century. She was born June 8, 1974, in Lacrosse, Wisconsin to James D. Bogdan Sr. and Jacqueline D. Stevens. Joan and her former husband, Jason Mayer, welcomed the light of her life; Brianna, into the world in 2004. Together with their son, Steven, the four of them shared many years of happiness.

In 1990, she moved to Ladysmith, Wisconsin to live with her Aunt Mary and cousins Theresa and Heidi where she graduated from Ladysmith High School, Class of 1992. Joan’s proud achievements included; receiving her accounting degree from Chippewa Valley Technical College, working in banking for over 20 years and most recently being promoted to Vice President Bank Manager at Waumandee State Bank in Mondovi, Wisconsin.

Joan will be best remembered for her LOVE, which she gave to every soul she encountered. Her laugh; infectious, her strength; immeasurable. Even on her difficult days, she exuded gratitude. She saw her life as a beautiful blessing because of the love she experienced and the people in it. She was a shining example of how to be a good human, inspiring those around her to be better. God only used the “Good Notes” when He wrote her life song. Joan’s melody will continue to serenade us forever and will play on in the hearts of all who loved her.

She is preceded in death by her father, James D. Bogdan Sr, her paternal grandparents, George and Lucille (Bibeau) Bogdan among other cherished family and friends.

She is survived by her daughter, Brianna Mayer; son, Steven Mayer; brother, James Bogdan Jr.; mother and father-in-law, Rick and Sandy Mayer; mother, Jacqueline D. Stevens; many aunts, uncles, cousins and an army of friends who were more like family.

Thank you to the cancer and palliative teams at Mayo in Rochester, Mayo Hospice (Miranda, Jed and Ashley) and countless family and friends who helped make her journey a special one.

A celebration of life will be held on February 9th from 11:00 am to 2:00 pm (service 11:30 am) at River Prairie Center located at 1445 Front Porch Place, Altoona, WI 54720.

What a beautiful and true tribute to Joanie. Most of my memories of her are as children at family gatherings. She was a beautiful soul with an infectious smile. I am not surprised at the legacy of love and joy she left for her children and friends.

I'm so sorry to hear this news. My sincere condolences to Joan's family. Joan was so sweet and patient with us. Joan helped us get our home loan when we moved to WI. She was always personal and made it a joy to bank there. Even when we moved to GA she still helped us when needed with the transition. She loved her family so much and would share that. What a beautiful person, I was lucky to know her for a short time. Sally Elko
