Obituary For Suzon Rose Gordon

Suzon R. (Karon) Gordon died peacefully on Friday, September 13 at River Pines Nursing Home. The community is invited to her funeral at 11am on Tuesday, September 17, at Temple Sholom, 1223 Emery St, Eau Claire, followed immediately by burial at B'nai Brith Jewish Cemetery. The service will be livestreamed on the Temple's YouTube Channel and the burial at the cemetery can be viewed via zoom. (Meeting ID: 894 2594 4776, Passcode: 679757)

Sue is survived by her sister, Janet Karon (Warren Howe) of Duluth; daughters Debora Gordon (Judy Wienman) and grandchildren John, Jacob, Joshua and Rose of Troy, NY; Lisa Gordon (Garrett Derner) of Evanston, IL; and Adina Gordon of Hinesburg, VT; her brothers- and sisters-in-law; nieces and nephew; cousins and friends. Her husband David Gordon died last year.

Shiva gatherings will be on Tuesday and Wednesday evening, from 6:30-8pm in the Community Room at River Pines Nursing Home, 206 N. Willson, Altoona. There will be a short service beginning at 7pm. All are welcome to attend. Enter the nursing home from the front, turn right and follow signs to the Community Room.

For the comfort of Sue's family members, please avoid perfume and scented body wash before the funeral and shiva gatherings.

Memorial donations may be made to JONAH (Joining Our Neighbors Advancing Hope) or Temple Sholom in Eau Claire, or the Democrat of your choice.

Zichronah livrachah, may Sue's memory grow as a blessing.

    To God we belong and to Him is our return.  She was the best, and I loved her. She and Dr. Taman, God bless them both, were great leaders in our communities and set the best examples for all of us on friendship and interfaith -she will be missed.  Sue believed in and taught me about a concept called, tikkun olam, which means to repair the world.  Our respective faiths have a common, moral imperative to help repair the world, and to offer succor to those in society who are most in need ("islah," in Arabic, and "tikkun olam," in Hebrew). As it says in both the Quran and Talmud, if you save one life, it is as though you have saved all of humanity.

    I will rember sue as one of thirst people I care for at river pines. I always sgaring things with her because I knew she was always egar to learn. I rember specifically one night when I was putting her to bed and we were talking about smells and I told her my favorite smell was petrichor and she ask what is that I explained it the smell when it rains and she instantly told me a story about how she smelt that smell when she was in the south watching a baseball game and she knew it was going to rain. We then talked about the Greek meaning which I will attach Petrichor is the smell of rain. The word comes from the Greek words 'petra', meaning stone, and 'ichor', which in Greek mythology refers to the golden fluid that flows in the veins of the immortals. She thought that was a lovely meaning and that she would rember the word for the smell of rain. Sue was a lovely soup that will be greatly missed and I'm glad I got to know her and also enjoy some classical music with her
