Cyril “Cy” A. Katzbahn, 86, of Colfax, WI passed away on Friday, April 1, 2022, at Mayo Clinic Health Systems-Eau Claire.
Cy was born on March 5, 1936, in Wisconsin to Cyril J. and Wilma E. (Powell) Katzbahn. Cy enlisted into the United States Marine Corps in 1954 and served until he was honorably discharged as a Corporal in 1957. Upon returning he became employed with Westinghouse (Thermo King) of Bloomington, MN and continued to work for them for 20 years.
Cy was united in marriage to Lorraine M. Schanen on August 16, 1958, at St. John’s Catholic Church in Cooks Valley, WI. Cy was always a hard worker as well as a man of all trades. There was never a project too big to accomplish. In 1976 Cy and Lorraine purchased land and started building their new home in Wisconsin on the weekends and during their vacations. Cy, Lorraine, and their two sons worked hard to finish it together and with the “big move” into their new home, Cy became employed with the Menomonie School District and retired after 22 years.
Cy and Lorraine liked to travel and went on cruises as well as going to Florida for winter vacations. They also loved going to their lake property in Wisconsin, where they enjoyed going on the pontoon, fishing for muskies, snowmobiling, camping, and hunting.
Recently they built a new home on their land and Cy did it all, he wanted to make sure it turned out nice. They became interested in antique tractors, especially John Deere tractors, and would show them in parades and go on tractor rides with them. They also belonged to a tractor club.
Cy is survived by his wife, Lorraine; two sons, Keith and Kevin; three granddaughters, Kara, Kimberly, and Keanna; five great-grandchildren, Autumn, Jasmine, William, Kiara, and Emori; brother-in-law, Norbert Sedlacek; sister-in-law, Karen (Paul) Roe; as well as many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Cy was preceded in death by his parents, Cyril J. and Wilma E.; brothers, Allen and Franklin; sister, Loraine Sedlacek; brother, Gaylord Katzbahn; sister-in-law, Sally Katzbahn; and parents-in-law, Edwin and Evelyn Schanen.
Visitation will take place at 10:00 am on Saturday, April 9, 2022 at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Elk Mound, WI. Memorial services will be held at 11:00 am at the church with Father Tim Welles officiating. Burial will follow services at St. John’s Catholic Cemetery in Elk Mound. Lunch will follow the burial.
