Alfred E. Smith, 82 of Eau Claire died on Monday, August 8, 2016 at his residence.

Al was born on August 9, 1933 to Ralph and Hattie (Moss) Smith in Eau Claire. He attended Black School in the Town of Seymour. Al married Gloria Glasbrenner on September 1, 1956 in Wabasha, MN. Al worked for the Eau Claire County Highway Department as a truck driver for many years. He enjoyed deer hunting and made a trip every year for 55 years to Montana to hunt. Al was a member of the Rock Creek Disabled Outdoors and Ascension Evangelical Lutheran Church for around 40 years. He was an avid hunter, fisherman, and bird watcher.

Alfred is survived by his wife, Gloria Smith of Eau Claire; sons, Paul Smith (Merry Schneider) of Fall Creek and Mark (Sue) Smith of Clinton, IL; granddaughter, Felicia (Chris) Anderson and many more grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and sister, Barbara (Don) Knutson of Pleasantville, WI.

Alfred was preceded in death by his parents.

Funeral services will be Thursday, August 11, 2016 at 11:00 am at Ascension Evangelical Lutheran Church in Eau Claire with Pastor Paul Sullivan officiating. Visitation will be Wednesday, August 10, 2016 from 4:00 to 7:00 pm at Smith Funeral Chapel and one hour prior to the services at the church on Thursday. Burial will follow the services at Rest Haven Cemetery.
