Alice May Stanford, 84, of Eau Claire passed away on Tuesday, March 7, 2017 at River Pines Nursing Home in Altoona.
Alice was born on November 5, 1932 to Elvir and Anna (Horn) Steinke in rural Mondovi, Wisconsin. She married the love of her life Clifford H. Stanford in January 1952 and they spent 59 years together. Alice and Cliff moved several times as they enjoyed building houses in the area. They were long time members of Our Redeemer Lutheran Church and later members of The Lutheran Church of the Good Shepard in Eau Claire. Alice was not one to watch others work, as she worked side by side with Clifford on the housing projects. It was not all work though, Alice loved the outdoors and fishing was one of her passions. She also enjoyed crafts, especially ceramics. Alice loved traveling and would accompany Cliff on many of his business trips around the country. They also spent many winters in Florida being snowbirds. Alice was always an animal lover and she not only had cats and dogs, but supported animal foundations.
Alice is survived by her two sons, Gregory (Barbara) Stanford of Shiocton, WI and Steven Stanford of Cornell, WI; daughter, Becky (Eric) Kahn of Burlingame, CA; Brother, LaMoine Steinke of Salem, WI; five grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
Alice was preceded in death by her husband, Clifford in 2011; and her sister, Bernice Heck of Mondovi in 1997.
The family would like to thank all the staff and nurses at River Pines for their compassionate care of Alice during her stay.
