Amelia M. Satonica, age 87 of Chippewa Falls, WI, passed away Wednesday, November 7, 2018 at the Chippewa Manor.
“Mickey” as she was known to family and friends was born in Wisconsin and lived most of her life here. One of the middle children of 10 siblings, she grew up doing farm work, where she learned to be determined and resilient.
When Mickey was young, she and her family (Kalson) sang and played music together doing fairs, radio, even writing songs herself. After listening to neighbors, who were immigrants from Switzerland, yodeling to call in their cows, Mickey taught herself to yodel and applied it to singing songs that were current at the time that involved yodeling. She got great joy from yodeling and singing. She used her creativity in many ways throughout her life, working with crafts, problem solving, and she was an excellent cook!
She is survived by daughter Amelia Ann Satonica; as well as, a brother, Frank Kalson; and Sister, Margret Streckert.
Mickey’s family would like to thank the staff at the Chippewa Manor for the care she received while there.
At Mickey’s request, no services will be held. Funeral arrangements for cremation to be handled by Smith Funeral Chapel in Eau Claire. Friends and family may leave condolences online at www.smithfuneralec.com.
So sorry to hear about Mickey’s passing. She will be missed dearly at the Manor.
Ann, Our deepest sympathy in the loss of your Mom. Although I only knew her briefly, she was a very special lady ! As the roommate to my aunt Burdean for the past 18 months, she was so supportive and a very great advocate for Burdean. She was so patient with Burdean when she repeated and repeated the same question over & over. She also could let me know how Burdean was being cared for , which was such a great comfort to me, as I knew Burdean could not tell me. I was not aware your Mom had declined so fast. We were there Sunday & she was asleep, so I did not disturb her while I sorted thru Burdean’s mail. I know you will miss your Mom tremendously; please take some comfort in knowing she will be missed by Burdean & I also.
Shari Berg ( niece of Burdean Gilbert )
