David F. La Pointe Sr., 79 of Eau Claire died on Tuesday, August 2, 2016 at Clearwater Care Center in Eau Claire.
David was born on February 15, 1937 to Francis and Helena (Steinke) La Pointe. He married Karen A. Christianson on July 19, 1985 in Eau Claire. David loved the outdoors and building on to his cabin. He loved making money, finding great deals at thrift sales, and scraping. He was big on dreaming and was always trying to win the lottery.
David is survived by his wife, Karen; sons, David (Terri) Jr., John, Rick (Brenda); stepson, Gary; stepdaughter, Tammy; and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
David was preceded in death by his parents; his daughter, Brenda; and his grandson, Jesse La Pointe.
The family would like to thank the Clearwater Care Center and Mayo Home Health and Hospice for their exceptional care and support.
Visitation will be on Monday, August 8, 2016 from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m. at Smith Funeral Chapel. A memorial service will follow the visitation on Monday at the funeral home. Pastor Robert Hoekstra will be officiating.

Dave was wonderful father-in-law to me for nearly 20 years, and a treasured grandpa to my boys. I will always remember with fondness his smile, laugh, and big bear hugs. He will be missed!

David was a bit of a mystery to me; he was my cousin, son of my mom’s youngest sister but not always in Eau Claire as we were growing up.
I remember him, mostly as an adult, as a very affable and good-natured fellow.
When my mom auctioned her personal belongings, David was there to acquire a piece of memorabilia that represented a tie to his family background.
My mom enjoyed his visits to her home on occasion.
Karen, my sympathies to you and your family! Uncle David was always very kind to me, and I will have fond memories of him!
