Leona B. Melsness, 95 of Eau Claire passed away on Sunday, January 14, 2018 at her home.
Leona was born on April 5, 1922 to Joseph and Francis (Zurek) Sindelar in Wiggins, Colorado. She married Lester Melsness in May of 1944 in Eau Claire. Leona loved the outdoors and she spent her time gardening and walking her dog. She made the best apple pie. Leona loved to travel, taking many bus trips with her sisters and family vacations with her sons. She enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren.
Leona is survived by her children, Rolland Melsness of Eau Claire, Randolph Melsness of Eau Claire, and Gerald (Nancy) Melsness of Altoona; grandchildren, Heather Melsness, Jill Melsness, Lacey Melsness, Kim Melsness, Michelle (Sean) Timm, Jennifer Kramer, Joe (Melissa) Melsness, Robert Melsness, Lisa Melsness, and David (Nicole) Melsness; many great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; sister, Florence Johnson; and many nieces and nephews.
Leona was preceded in death by her husband, Lester Melsness; daughter, Kathy Melsness; sisters, Rose Sindelar, Emma (Hans) Ostrude, Mary (Herb) Kleven, Agnes Clark, and Elsie Gray; brother, Emil (Irene) Sindelar; and brother-in-law, Lloyd Johnson.
Funeral services will be Saturday, January 20, 2018 at 11:00 am at Smith Funeral Chapel with Pastor Brian Quade officiating. Visitation will be from 4:00 to 7:00 pm on Friday, January 19, 2018 at Smith Funeral Chapel and one hour prior to the services on Saturday at the funeral home. Burial will follow the service at Rest Haven Cemetery.
What a great lady! She will be missed!
