Shirley M. Matti, 78 of Humbird died on Monday, August 29, 2016 at Mayo Clinic Health Systems-Eau Claire.

Shirley was born on January 15, 1938 to Ervin and Mary (Smoczynski) Gruper in Chicago, Illinois. She was united in marriage to James D. Matti on June 23, 1956. Jim and Shirley were blessed with 57 years together before Jim passed away on October 30, 2013. Family was very important to Shirley especially for Sunday get-togethers. She believed that family always came first. Many of her friends and family called her Connie.

Shirley is survived by her three children, Rick (Beth) Matti of Alma Center, WI, Michael (Trudy) Matti of Willard, WI, and Barbara Matti of Humbird, WI; 2 grandsons; 6 granddaughters; 12 great-grandsons; and 14 granddaughters; and many nieces and nephews.

Shirley was preceded in death by her husband, James Matti; her parents, Ervin and Mary Gruper; brothers, Ervin C. Gruper and Joseph Gruper; and sister, Marie Trycta.

The family would like to give a special thank you to Black River Memorial Hospital, Black River Falls EMTs, doctors and nurses from the 3rd floor and the CCU team at Mayo Clinic Health Systems.

Private family services will be held at a later date.

  2. I talked with Aunt Shirley a couple of months ago and she said everything was going as well as can be expected. Rick, Mike and Barb was so surprised when Chester called me. I’m very sorry for your loss. Aunt Shirley was one in a million and will be missed by many. Please accept our condolences, if you need anything please feel free to call.
