Steven D. Gunem, 67, of Eau Claire, passed away on Monday, July 3, 2023, in his home.

Steven was born on August 29, 1955, to Donald and Marguerite (Gunderson) Gunem in Eau Claire. He was the second child of two and grew up in the Town of Seymour. Steven attended North High School, where he played baseball and football and graduated in 1974. He held the school record for longest punt of 68 yards.

Steven was known by his friends as “Goober.” He had many interests that brought him joy, including playing on slow-pitch softball teams, hunting and fishing, and being a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles in Hallie. However, Goob’s lifelong love of motorcycles (Harleys specifically) was what really made him happy.

Steven worked for Uniroyal manufacturing tires in both Eau Claire and Gary, Indiana, from 1980 to 1992. He then worked at American Phoenix in Eau Claire until his retirement in 2020.

Steven is survived by his sister, Pamela Frank, of South St. Paul, Minnesota; and his nephew, Patrick Frank, of Burnsville, Minnesota. He was preceded in death by his parents.

A celebration of life gathering for Steven will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday, August 5, 2023, at Idlewild in Eau Claire. A small graveside ceremony will be held at Prairie View Cemetery in the Village of Hallie at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday, August 10, 2023.

Steven was a kind and generous man who will be deeply missed by all who knew him. He will always be remembered for his love of Harleys, his sense of humor, and his willingness to help others. Friends and family are welcome to leave online condolences below.
