Marian R. Benedict, 105, of Eau Claire passed away on Saturday, November 6, 2021, at Grace Edgewood in Altoona.

Marian was born on May 20, 1916, to Frank and Matilda (Petzke) Dahlen in Minneapolis, Minnesota. Marian and her sister Dorie grew up in south Minneapolis, near Lake Harriet. She attended the School of Business at the University of Minnesota. Marian married Edward on September 7, 1940. Edward Jr. (Ned) was born in 1942 and William in 1943. During World War II, she spent time in Texas, following Edward in the Army. In 1946, Edward and Marian, Ned, and Bill, moved to Eau Claire, which she called her home for the rest of her life. In 1949, John Scott was born and Mark in 1952. Marian worked as a bookkeeper in the family business, Benedict Sales and Service. She was an active member of Grace Lutheran Church. Marian and Edward were passionate and accomplished travelers. Her hobbies included golf, bridge, quilting and crafting, all of which she pursued well into her nineties.

Marian is survived by her children, Edward of Appleton, WI; William of Eau Claire, WI; John Scott (Peggy) of Rice Lake, WI; Mark (Denise) of McKinney, TX; grandchildren, Paul (Heather), Mark (Kimberly), Eric (Christine), Matthew (Sarah), Christine, Sarah (Justin), Lee (Andrea), Michael (Brett), and Jordan (Alyssa), many great-grandchildren; and step-grandchildren, Rick, Sherri (Trevor), Andrea, Sergio (Lorraine), Antonio (Amanda), and Vanessa.

Marian was preceded in death by her parents, Frank, and Matilda; her husband, Edward; her sister, Doris Maser; and her daughters-in-law, Shelia, and Susan.

The family is particularly grateful to Kris of St. Joseph’s Hospice for the loving care she provided to her when her family couldn’t be with her.

A Memorial Service will be Saturday, November 13, 2021, at 2:00 pm at Grace Lutheran Church. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church on Saturday. Burial and a Celebration of Life will take place on July 1, 2022.

  1. Sad and yet so happy for Marian’s long and blessed life! I have not seen Marian in 60 years when I was a student at UWEC, but remember her as such a wonderful and loving person. God has richly blessed her and Ed and their family! She and Ed are now enjoying eternal peace with our Lord and Savior!!
