Robert Allen Simonson, 81 of St. Michael, passed away peacefully, on September 1st, 2022, at his residence with his daughter’s Angela and Amy at his side.

Robert was born in Durand, WI on January 8th, 1941, to Floyd and Lois (Smith) Simonson.

Robert served proudly in the United States Navy as a supply officer, on the USS Wood County and sailed in the Mediterranean Seas as well as protected the U.S. interests in Cuba during the Cuban Missile Crisis. Robert was a patriot and was proud of his service to his country.

After his service, Robert returned to the U.S. and married Jeanne E. Simonson and was married for 57 years. Robert and Jeanne had 2 daughters, Angela Marie, and Amy Jeanne.

He was employed as a Warehouse Leadman for 45 years with Graco, Inc. After retirement, Robert was employed with Cabela’s in Rogers, as a door greeter.

Robert played in men’s softball leagues, and also coached the team for several years. Robert was part of a men’s bowling league and bowled weekly.

He was very involved with his daughter’s and volunteered as a 4-H project leader and State Fair Chaperone. He volunteered with the United Way and other charitable organizations and was a “Gallon” blood donor with the American Red Cross. Robert served as the Vice Commander of the Champlin American Legion for several years in the 1990’s and was an active member of the St. Michael American Legion.

Robert thoroughly enjoyed NASCAR and enjoyed taking trips to the NASCAR racetracks around the country. Robert especially enjoyed trips to the Las Vegas Speedway that he took with his daughter Angela.

He enjoyed spending time with his daughter Amy, hunting in Buffalo County, WI and visiting with his grandsons and great granddaughter.

Robert enjoyed reading his daily newspaper, playing golf, fishing and hunting with his brothers and watching the Vikings, Packers and Twins. He enjoyed going to Canterbury Downs to watch the horses run and warned to “Never Bet on a Gray Horse”. He spent hours with his extended family at Broadway Pizza and Clive’s Roadhouse in Rogers, Pulling Winning Tabs and Talking Smart.

Robert is survived by his daughters, Angela (Mitch) Dvorak and Amy (Jeff) Dahl;
Sister, Betty (Dave) Pehlke, Brother Dennis Simonson; 4 Grandchildren, Minda (Peter) Corrales, Julieanna Simonson, Logan (Stephanie) Dahl and Ethan Dahl; 5 Great Grandchildren, Jacob Pecarina, Elaina Simonson, Anthony Curtis, Emmamarie Curtis and Hadley Jo Dahl. Robert is also survived by many loved Nieces and Nephews.

He is preceded in death by his parents, and his siblings, James, Darrel, Kenneth, Delbert, Rosemary, Dorothy and Darlene.

A memorial service will be Monday, September 19, 2022, at 11:00 am at Smith Funeral Chapel in Eau Claire, Wisconsin. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the funeral home on Monday. Burial will follow the service at Lakeview Cemetery.
